So my academic career path has recently been thrown into disarray by the unexpected departure of my PI (principal investigator), Dr. J. Michael Walker, from this mortal plane of existence. Barring the personal loss of a dependable friend and teacher, the event affects me considerably because the vast majority of MD/PhD programs require letters from faculty with whom I’ve done significant research, and co-authoring one (soon to be two) papers with a professor fits that criterion. Also, I will need to find another lab in these coming months for my senior year, and just hope that the learning curve for my second lab will be less steep, or I will not achieve anything significant.

On that note though, I thought some people might possibly be interested in looking over my one and only current publication, Targeted Lipidomics – discovery of new fatty acyl amides. For those less technically inclined, the paper basically just describes a particular method of finding lipids in rat brains, and the applications thereof. My next paper, currently being revised, centers around the compounds discovered, though I obviously cannot give details until after the paper is accepted for publication. Enjoy.
